More than 300,000 adults have yet to get their first vaccination in the Black Country and West Birmingham, despite vaccination being given last week before Freedom Day.
Around 17,000 people received a Covid-19 vaccination over the “Big Walk-In Weekend” from Friday, July 16 to Monday, July 19, when restrictions were eased across the UK.
What is worrying, however, is that there are still more than 300,000 adults who have not yet received a vaccine.
Last weekend, 40 venues in the region offered walk-up jabs without making an appointment – every adult in the country now had the opportunity to have at least their first dose.

But now with a number of restrictions lifted on “Freedom Day” Monday (July 19), health officials are urging those who haven’t been bitten to come forward.
The message is: “It’s not too late” for the lifesaving sting and now is “not the time to be complacent”.
Sally Roberts is the senior nurse for Black Country and the West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group who said about 300,000 adults (over the age of 18) would still have their first vaccination.
Sally said, “Delivering over 17,000 jabs in one weekend is a brilliant achievement, so a big thank you to everyone who has done their part.
“Our goal was to get so many people from across the region vaccinated before Freedom Day so they can safely do the things they love again.”

The Senior Nurse continued, “The restrictions may have eased, but with cases increasing across the region, now is not the time to be complacent.
“The more you mix with other people, the higher the chance of contracting the virus and passing it on to others.
“That’s why it’s more important than ever to get vaccinated and make sure you get the vital second dose after eight weeks.
“Getting both doses of the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others from this life-threatening virus.
“Not only does this decrease your chances of contracting the virus, but it also decreases your chances of getting seriously ill – or even dying – if you do contract it.
“It’s not too late to get in touch and get your vaccine. So if you have not yet received your first dose or your second dose is due now, please do not hesitate. “
