Welcome to BirminghamLive’s coverage of all the latest Aston Villa transfer news on Monday, June 20, as Steven Gerrard looks to continue the club’s summer recruitment drive ahead of his first pre-season in charge.
The latest news and reports claim that West Bromwich Albion and Watford are two clubs that are interested in Villa striker Cameron Archer, following his impressive form for Preston and England U21s. Watford are also said to be considering a move for Keinan Davis, though Nottingham Forest are reportedly leading the race to sign him, while Manchester United have offered Christian Eriksen a contract.
Boubacar Kamara joined Villa on a free transfer from Marseille and was shortly followed to Villa Park by £26m defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla. Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have also penned permanent contracts following initial loan moves.
While more incomings are expected in the coming weeks, the focus will also be on moving players out of the club. Matt Targett has completed a £15m move to Newcastle United, but more players will follow him out of the door as head coach Gerrard molds the Villa squad to his liking.
Those potential sales could boost Gerrard’s transfer budget this summer with Villa said to be keen on recruiting another left-sided defender, with links to RSC Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez emerging. He is also in the market for another midfielder and striker to add to his attacking arsenal ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
