The skies around the Westminster Parliament and across the UK have seen orange paper planes with messages being flown to lobby the government to abandon its Rwanda Plan. Last Friday, Faith groups across the UK who work with refugees were involved in the ‘Fill The Skies With Hope’ campaign, including the Jesuit Refugee Service, Churches Together in England, and Birmingham Churches Together. The Catholic primary school of St Dunstan’s in Birmingham said on twitter, “we are a School of Sanctuary and we welcome everyone,” alongside a video of children flying their paper planes.
Friday, 23 September was a day of action to launch the new campaign calling on the government to change course on its policy to banish refugees to Rwanda. The campaign runs until 9 November. The day was timed for after the announcement of the new Prime Minister, and ahead of the party conferences where fringe meetings are planned to engage both main parties on how the UK treats refugees.
Columbans, who are members of Together with Refugees, produced a ‘Stop Rwanda’ video. It shows Columban Ordained, Lay Missionaries, Co-workers, friends and family, with the help of participants from Fatima House Project, Hope Garden and local schools working together to create orange paper planes which were launched into the sky to show support of the Together with Refugees campaign.
