Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- Birmingham-Southern is seeking state funding in order to prevent closing its doors. Alabama officials will meet on Monday to discuss the request for $30 million by the college. (Alabama’s News Leader)
- A Birmingham coking plan was fined $925,000 after the Jefferson County Health Department reported the plant was leaking polluting gases. Following a consent decree approved this past Wednesday, Bluestone Coke is expected to pay the fine for air pollution violations. (Alabama’s News Leader)
- Birmingham Water Works is planning to spend more than $72 million on infrastructure improvements For 2023. Planned improvements include replacing pipeline and work on the Lake Purdy Dam Stability Rehab project. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
