Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Birmingham-Southern is seeking state funding in order to prevent closing its doors. Alabama officials will meet on Monday to discuss the request for $30 million by the college. (Alabama’s News Leader)
  2. A Birmingham coking plan was fined $925,000 after the Jefferson County Health Department reported the plant was leaking polluting gases. Following a consent decree approved this past Wednesday, Bluestone Coke is expected to pay the fine for air pollution violations. (Alabama’s News Leader)
  3. Birmingham Water Works is planning to spend more than $72 million on infrastructure improvements For 2023. Planned improvements include replacing pipeline and work on the Lake Purdy Dam Stability Rehab project. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
